How this Retirement Age Calculator India works out your date

Your retirement age is simply your current age plus the years it takes your portfolio to reach your FIRE Number. Each month your corpus grows by its real (inflation-adjusted) return and you add your SIP; the month it crosses your FIRE Number, you’re financially free. This retirement age calculator India runs that projection month by month, so the date reflects your real trajectory.

Your FIRE Number is your annual retirement expenses divided by a safe withdrawal rate — and that rate is set by your retirement horizon (life expectancy minus your retirement age), not a flat 4% rule. So retiring earlier raises your FIRE Number, which the calculator accounts for automatically.

Retirement Age = Current Age + Years to reach your FIRE Number
The “Retire earlier by investing more” panel shows how much sooner you’d retire by adding ₹10k, ₹25k, or ₹50k to your monthly SIP.

How to pull your retirement age forward

Three things move the date: invest more each month, spend less (which both frees up savings and lowers your FIRE Number), or grow your income. The scenarios in the results panel are deliberately conservative — they assume a constant SIP with no salary hikes, so real life with annual raises usually beats them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my retirement age worked out?
It’s your current age plus the number of years your corpus takes to reach your FIRE Number, growing at your real return with your monthly SIP added along the way. The FIRE Number uses a horizon-based safe withdrawal rate, so it’s tuned to how long your retirement will last.
How does the calculator find my retirement age?
It tries each age in turn, starting from your current age. For each candidate age it works out the horizon (life expectancy minus that age), the safe withdrawal rate for that horizon, and the FIRE Number it implies — then checks whether your corpus and SIP would have reached that number by that age. The first age that clears the bar is your earliest retirement age. If none do, it tells you FIRE isn’t reachable yet and to lower expenses or raise your SIP.
Does a bigger SIP really move the date that much?
Yes. Because compounding is exponential, extra monthly investment early on has an outsized effect. The scenario panel shows the jump for ₹10k, ₹25k, and ₹50k more per month — often several years each.
